Day 30 — Dunmeshi

KahuPachinkoRyutoOona Katoa

The crew stalks and kidnaps the Mink, uncovering the revolutionary network behind Pirate’s Cove.

Plan: Stalk the Mink

Pachinko will be spying as he is the most stealthy. Kahu is going to hide in one of the barrels and do a stakeout on the hideout.

We have to stake out Mink.

It’s the top of the morning and Mr. Mink is leaving the alleyway and goes to the main street, walks into the first common establishment and comes out looking more drunk than before. He had a delicious 3 pint breakfast.

Ryuto, disguised as a tea vendor, attempts to sell him some tea. Mink looks scared and slightly recognizes Ryuto, Mink puts on a brave face and continues the conversation. Ryuto offers a lot of tea and pushes him. The keeper of the inn is not happy that this soliciting is happening in the front. The Mink scatters away. Pachinko sees a mob forming around the dragon as his sales tactics are backfiring.

Mink has sobered up from the sheer fear of the scene that transpired, he is now suspicious of his surroundings. He is going through a strange route to the theater. He is late for his own show. I have been carried inside as a doll to the play. I observe the play for the next three hours. The play where the Mink has a very different stage persona, he has a drunk angry clown. The people are actually quite entertained by his work as an improviser in the scene. In the intermission or at the end of the play, there are people who come and try and collect tips. They give out pamphlets for propaganda, not explicit ones but more like offering social change.

The people stalking out the hideout are looking at some people coming in and out and collecting things from his mailbox. We think they communicate via dead drops.

Pachinko exits the theater after the trash and goes back to the hideout where Ryuto also joins. The 4 people open the mailbox and see a bunch of messages addressed to a bunch of codenames. We take some messages and they are not in code, it’s mostly a report on organizations around town and how much money is being collected, it’s not much. It’s the sum of tens of gold a day, the operating budget is very low. Most of the money is going to Pirate’s Cove, the headquarters. There’s also a mention of recruitments and some discussion of the crew.

Inside the house, we found more documents, the most important one was after we met the contact in the alleyway. They are curious about us and they think we know more about the saints. The one important thing is that the mischievous people are affiliated with the syncretists.

Pachinko reads between the lines and understands that the Moe and the Mink characters. The Mink’s business, the Moe is more astute than the rest and is a syncretist and is trying to pull the revolution into the syncretism which is a bigger and more organized movement. Moe is very interested in us due to our association with Don Gregorio and St Sebastian.

They also have a base camp in Pirate’s Cove if we need more information. It’s unclear what’s happening. The money is going to Pirate’s Cove and this is just the house of the Mink who is high up in the hierarchy.

Options:

  1. Blow up Cannery plan to get access to Pirate’s Cove
  2. Get to Pirate’s Cove on our own

Pirate’s Cove is technically on this island through impassable land. By sea, there’s smuggler boats in the cover of darkness and using a specific signal.

We don’t know what to do and hear some people outside singing. We’re trapped in the cellar and need to hide. We hear the singing enter the house and then just snoring. Let’s go upstairs. Pachinko makes a ruckus. It’s the Mink and a lady friend. Oona grabs the Mink and we leave a note for the woman with some money on it.

We put him in a barrel and take him to the ship. Captain Jackdoe doesn’t wanna know. The boggarts are crowding around for the spectacle.

The Mink wakes up and is scared. Pachinko starts the conversation. Kahu asks him to take us to Pirate’s Cove. He is sobering up and looking around at what’s happening.

Kahu and Oona are doing a bad cop / good cop routine on him. Kahu is quite scary and Oona is quite reasonable. Kahu has now put him on fire and then Ryuto douses him with water. We have broken the toughest member of the resistance with our intimidation tactics:

  • He was contracted to intercept the relic. He was contracted by an unknown party. He swears he doesn’t know but they knew exact coordinates to intercept it.
  • He was going to have it safely at pirate’s cove and not give it to the buyer.
  • He only communicated through a box to the buyer. The buyer have been threatening but it’s only a voice in a box. They think it’s a no good rich merchant. He thinks they just want to sell it to a collection.

We’ll keep him in here for a while. The boggarts might want to eat him. We tell them to not eat him.

By now it’s the morning and the Mink’s absence is noted.

Oona is examining the Mink to figure out if we can trust him to take us to the Pirate’s Cove. His innermost dialog is that he detests himself for having given up everything to us. He needs to be on suicide watch.

Kahu is now doing the treatment of V for Vendetta to rebuild him. He plants an idea on him and some warmth. We make sure that

We run to the docks to find mystery man. We reach there before news arrive him. We manage to convince him to leave the dock and wait in the water.
