Day 10 — Boomerang

After returning Bloombark’s children, the crew departs into a storm that leaves their ship lost and damaged.

We’re back to the Bloombark village with the children and the boxes. Punx says we must deliver the children. We’re greeted with a hero’s welcome. There are flags on the trees. The flags are made from multi-colored sheep’s wool. We meet the Queen who is now in better spirits.

The latest batch of tea is most refreshing. We’ll have a feast of tea and lama’s steak. Pachinko has set up a tattoo stand and is tattooing all the children that want it. Punx gets as drunk as he can and starts doing his white man dance with the natives, like a noodle inflatable. No one understands what he is doing but he is having a blast.

People are flocking around Punx and his vibes. It’s a party everywhere. The tattooing is going amazing. The story of our adventure is now tattooed across the children. We walk into the tent after all the dancing.

Queen Killipella is talking to us. She first congratulate us but is now inquiring about what we were doing here so she is ready to report back to the king and re-establish formal relationships with Moa’Tor. We ask if there’s any conditions.

The queen is going to show us something. In a chest in the corner, she finds a dusty looking piece of parchment. This is a letter that all the tribes in the west received back when Moa’Tor was created, some 50 years ago.

Gorgol Mohakoka was an ambitious man and he promised that it was not for his own interests that he wanted to join all the islands. In this letter, it said that he was only doing to unite us against the foreigners. Since then we have seen very little of that resistance. The islands are usually against any hegemon. Like the Sea Elves. We were eager to wage war against any unifiers. This time we allowed it for the purpose of shielding us against any further incursion from the foreigners. But now the foreigners are well integrated and the promise was not fulfilled. Every tribe received this letter and promise. Most of them accepted and so he peacefully united the islands.

The current king is a lesser son of a greater father. Ryuto tries to argue the benefits of globalization and economic integration. But the queen is worried about independence. She is happy to now reestablish relations as we have shown her the value of friendship.

We’ll take the Trojan snake. We offer to take someone or some people from the island to Moa’Tor to do a cultural exchange. The Elephant Isles is only going to accept Islander business.

We continue back to dancing. We wake up to shouting and fighting. The boggarts have been spotted. We go out to explain that they are bringing back our trade goods. The boggarts don’t get very close. They leave one Boggart to speak to us. They are Lilypad. Mx. Lilypad wishes to speak to the queen. Pachinko frisks Lilypad and there’s nothing hidden on their person.

We’re escorted to the main hall where Lilypad squats into a comfortable position. Lilypad congratulates Killipella on getting powerful allies. Lilypad is arguing that this is an inside conflict.

Lilypad wants to make it clear to the chieftess to not trust the outsiders. Lilypad issues a warning because the previous Shaman was tricked by an envoy of Salamander, the Wakin, from an old sibling lineage. The Salamander approached and pretended to be friends with their honey tongues and they told them to abandon the sacred traditions and taboos. They convinced them that it was ok. The old shaman believed them and that’s why we started again being practitioners of blood magic. The salamanders talked them up and promised them many things. But that made them into a bloodlust tribe that would require blood from other tribes. The Salamander stole from them and absconded with the Boggartnomicon with all the rituals. The old shaman doubled down and declared vengeance upon outsiders like the kind that visited a few months back. They knew better than to let the dragon die and instead killed him after following him to the island. The outsider was irrelevant. Lilypad is looking for the salamander people. The fear is that they already returned wherever they crawled out of. Blood magic requires more sacrifice the farther the reach.

They are not interested in brokering peace or maintaining trade relations. Lilypad understands there are several tribes and warns us to be careful of the salamanders who have access to the blood magic. The Old Gods have no exclusivity and probably would be happy to serve anyone. Lilypad departs with a final word “Ribbit”.

The Queen was worried but did not show it. She wants to know if there’s any truth to the threat.

Outside, Ryuto and Punx are trying to do some trading with the goods. Pachinko is trying to recruit people to migrate to Moa’Tor.

Ryuto specifically is trying to trade for Flora and Fauna to find samples of the tree he is looking for. By luck, Ryuto finds the chuckwood wood. Ryuto leaves recipes for his tea.

Punx on the other hand is losing out on his trade.

Trade balance:

50g in supplied goods.

10g was given to the Boggarts.

40g was split traded by Punx and Ryuto.

90g worth of goods from the trade.

Pachinko recruits a couple families to move to the big city with the sponsorship of Pachinko and he will help you to emigrate. We haven’t seen Ziggy. Pachinko convinced two families to join the big city.

Ryuto tells the prince the details of where we’re going. Ryuto is giving some bark citronella tip to Don Gregorio. He is not ecstatic about the success of us opening the village. Don Gregorio is not on good terms with the mainland church.

We go on a one day expedition to the ancestral burial grounds. We go there also to bury the soldiers that fell during the battle.

The tower seems to be untouched. Ryuto detects lingering magic in this tower despite not being used for thousands of years. Something very old and powerful once used this towers a focus point. Ryuto investigates further.

Punx goes into the basement and he discovers that all the rooms have been wiped out and everything has been taken. All the walls have been scratched out. The axe is still there.

Don Gregorio and Pachinko say some words for the burial. The tower is evidence of a well built structure. Looks kinda similar to another tower he saw near the first village he landed on the island and where his friends died from the Agu. There were some elves in that village that were more unfriendly to outsiders. The other tower is in the northeastern tip.

With this information, we go back to the village, get on the boat and sail off. Ziggy has been on the boat all along.

The King of Moa Tor is in Kapicalla, the capital city in the biggest island. Ziggy has been adopted by the crew as a top boy. We sail to Kapicalla. A few days into the journey, Ziggy is like “what’s the fire on this mast”. There’s a blue flame on both masts. A blue violet glow spark on each mast.

Punx surmises that it’s not magical. Oona knows that it’s St. Elmo’s fire. It indicates that there’s a storm brewing. We get all tied up and secure the deck. There is almost like an unnatural force that’s driving the storm as it forms so quickly. We get some emergency tea.

Pachinko fashions a lighting rod and puts it into one of the Tender so it sails away and attracts the lightning. The Lively Lady is now weathering the storm.

A gust of wind almost takes Ryuto away but he is caught by Oona and a gust of wind conjured by Punx and Ryuto takes him back to board. Three different lightning bolts hit the Tender behind you. During the storm we lose the carpenter to the storm. Oona reacts quickly and breaks a piece of boat to try and bring him back to the ship. He clings to the wood. Oona reels him back to the ship. The carpenter is Tomas the carpenter.

We survive the storm after a terrible night and damage to the ship. We don’t know where we are. We need to repair the ship. We’re becalmed.

Punx is now going to train his ship sailing skills.
