Kahurangi—usually Kahu—came ashore without his memory and later discovered that the Migrant Fleet had practically raised him. His childhood predictions, strange affinity for fire, and place in the Crimson Guard all preceded the power now consuming his life.

Character arc
Section titled “Character arc”- The burning survivor: found on the shore after Johan Storzenbecher’s slaver ship was destroyed.
- Memento: reunited with the Migrant Fleet and forced to reconcile an entire forgotten childhood.
- The engine: became the first person the crew saw reignite a Cathayan ironclad’s fire-driven core.
- The prophet: stole the forbidden burning frog relic and received visions of liberation, holy war, and a faceless person made of flame.
- The Speaker: founded a movement whose promise of Moaan self-determination may either remake or burn the Isles.
Central tension
Section titled “Central tension”Kahu’s fire connects three traditions that all claim different meanings for it: Old Moa, Carolingia’s Eternal Flame, and Cathay’s fire-powered technology. The campaign has not established whether these are one force, parallel forces, or a dangerous coincidence.
